This photo says it all really. Addison, wearing his pink pump shirt while showing off his home made ninja sticks. He is a fierce ninja fighter wearing pink. We have a slew of pump shirts that stopped looking so good thanks to our not so great washing machine and being thrown in the wash with other colors. Yes they were white and yes my husband and I are lazy laundry do-ers. I asked Addison to choose a color to dye them and he, of course, chose pink. If you have been following along here you probably already know that this is Addison's favorite color. He has pink mittens, a pink butterfly lunchbox, pink infusion sets and pink socks. He treasures all of them. Well, maybe not the infusion sets! It has been funny to be in preschool where some of the other kids, girls particularly, have developed of sense of gender stereotypes already. Addison hasn't really encountered this much before now. We have taken loads of classes and been with friends but this is the first time we are in a large group of children that we see several times a week. The other day I overheard one of the girls in is class say to her mom as they were leaving "Look at Addison's lunchbox, it's PINK! Pink is for girls!" The mom gently explained that anyone can like pink not just girls. A similar conversation about the color pink happened at pre-k lunch yesterday (not directed at Addison) and their teacher said how much he liked pink and how he had pink shoes and a couple of pink shirts. Nice. I was happy to hear a man defending pink as a color for everyone! Addison always goes longingly by the girls section, wowed by all the pink. I wonder how it all came about..making pink strictly a girls color?

He is confident in himself and that is good.
If Ninjas can wear pink, then I think anyone can!
In Japan pink is a very popular color for both boys and girls. The last time I was in Hawaii a shopkeeper was telling me that you can tell when a group of Japanese tourists have been in the store because there is no pink left.
As the mama of a pink pump wearer who happens to be a six-year-old boy, I think his color choice is rad. What's interesting is that I hated pink as a young girl because of it's gender-y, princess-y association. I love when boys rock it, because it helps me to appreciate all of its variations as JUST COLOR, nothing more.
PINK IS FOR EVERYONE!!!!
He's starting a revolution...YAY FOR PINK!
sounds like he's definitely surrounded by the right kind of attitudes toward pink from his family and his teacher. love it!
my daughter loved bob the builder when she was a toddler, but they only made btb undies for boys. so i bought her those. and wrote a strongly worded letter to hanes.
Probably a manufactured "tradition" like so many others. (before the days of ultrasounds, my mom said people just bought things in yellow for expectant parents.) Go, Addison! Some boys in our preschool paint their nails and dress up like girls - freaks out the dads the most.
I have a student (male) who wears an awesome deep pink shirt from time to time and he looks great in it. The whole 'girl' color/'boy' color thing is silly, I think.
When you find something you like, go for it!!
I've wondered the same as my boys love pink, sadly I think because it's been over feminized I've come to not like it so much. But, I still love to see it on my guys! Addison rocks the pink!
