Many of you who land here frequently know that we are a homeschooling family. At least so far in this parenting journey of 4.5 years. I have not given preschool any thought...until recently. You see, I stumbled across this blog and I read this post and I was ...inspired and curious. Here was this man, this teacher, talking about teaching kids, preschool kids in particular, and I was really kind of blown away by what he had to say. As I moved on from this post and started looking at his photos and reading about what he does with the kids at his school, it reminded of what we do at home but it was in the company of a group of other parents and children. Maybe, just maybe preschool was something to consider. I looked at where Teacher Tom is located and was surprisingly pleased to see he is in Seattle. I began following the trail online to find his school and get some more information. I made contact, was told they actually had an opening but also a long waiting list of interested families and that my chances were slim but stay in touch. A week later, I had made it to the short list and as of today Addison is enrolled! How crazy is that? Serendipitous? Maybe.
I am entering this new experience with slight trepidation AND excitement. It is a cooperative preschool so I am required to work there one day a week and then I can be there the other 2 if I want. I want, so that's extra cool for me. I am a little concerned about the germy-ness of preschool and how that will affect my health and Addison's. Mostly though, I have no idea how all the D care will go.When I toured the school, one of the parents I spoke with about Addison's care immediately volunteered to be my care buddy on the day she worked at school. A good sign to be sure of the nature of this community.
As a homeschooler at heart and still considering myself one (after all, as I have said before homeschooling comes in all shapes and sizes) I am looking forward to being part of a community of people teaching children and playing with children together. We have an orientation day of sorts this coming monday..I will keep you all posted on our new adventure.

Sounds like you've found an ideal learning environment...
serendipitous for sure! AWESOME! :)
I have been thinking a lot about homeschooling vs preschool myself these days for my little guy so I can't wait to hear how this new adventure goes for you both!
Oh stop! I could cry. I did, however laugh instead and call to Andrew to read your post out loud. I imagined myself reading the article and then looking the guy up to find he lives in Seattle and I am in Colchester!!
It sounds just lovely. I am at once really pleased for you and Addison and also more than a little jealous. In particular for the fatc that you can stay at the school; so many here are shocked that I might want to do that rather than leg it as quickly as possible. Do update us with how it's going and what kind of thing they are doing. Any web links? Lots of love.
good luck!
